World Aids Day, celebrated annually on December 1st to raise awareness, honor lives, and advocate for communities leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.The World Health Organization (WHO), alongside communities and partners, will mark World AIDS Day 2023, under the theme “Let communities lead”.The concept behind World AIDS Day emerged from the need to confront the escalating crisis of HIV/AIDS on a global scale. Since its inception, World AIDS Day has served as a vital platform for education, advocacy, and mobilization efforts.
Community organizations representing populations affected by the virus are on the frontline of the HIV response. Empowering these communities is essential so that they can develop their own strategies and reach those most in need of access to available innovations, such as the distribution of self-tests, the implementation of PrEP at the primary care level and in community centers, and immediate linkage to treatment to achieve an undetectable viral load. A person with an undetectable viral load does not transmit the infection, thus breaking the transmission chain.
If you are seeking HIV testing, treatment, or need support and resources while living with the virus, please contact one of our Community Health Workers or our medical case manager Michael Wallace at
502-774-4401 ext. 1255 or email at mwallace@pdchc.org. Services include linkage to care, HIV testing, Ryan White Program application assistance, access to contraception, informal counseling, medication adherence, treatment options, lifestyle changes, and other services.
