The Delta Variant of COVID-19 is the latest strain to hit the US. This strain is said to be more contagious and more deadly than the prior variants that have plagued not only the United State but the world over the last year. Here are 3 things you need to know about the COVID-19 Delta Variant.
1. More Contagious
The delta variant of COVID-19 is considered to be more contagious than previous strains of COVID-19. The CDC states that the delta variant is more easily spread than viruses like the common cold, seasonal flu and is as contagious as chickenpox.
2. Symptoms are the Same
As far as current research shows, the symptoms for the delta variant of COVID-19 and previous strains are pretty much the same. This is a good reason to make sure you are getting tested if you show any symptoms, even if you are vaccinated.
3. Vaccines can Help
While vaccines don’t guarantee that you won’t catch COVID-19, it does help protect you against serious illness and hospitalization from COVID-19. Getting vaccinated means that even if you are infected with COVID, the chances of getting seriously ill are significantly lower. If you are vaccinated and have symptoms, it is still important to get tested.
