LGBTQ+ Health

People who are in the LGBTQ+ Community are members of every community. They are diverse and come from all walks of life, all races and ethnicities, all ages, and all socioeconomic statuses. Therefore, the needs of this community should be considered in public health efforts to improve the overall health of every person and eliminate health disparities.

Research suggests that LGBT individuals face health disparities linked to societal stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights. Discrimination against the LGBT community has been associated with high rates of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and suicide.

The many benefits of addressing health concerns and reducing disparities include:

  • Reductions in disease transmission and progression
  • Increased mental and physical well-being
  • Reduced health care costs
  • Increased longevity

Park DuValle opens its doors to everyone on no matter race, sexual orientation, or religion. We know that understanding LGBTQ+ health starts with recognizing the history of oppression and discrimination.
