Having a Healthy Holiday Season: Part 1

Having a Healthy Holiday Season: Part 1

It is always a struggle to stay healthy during the holidays. Between the cold weather keeping you inside with all the delicious food and good old flu season, it’s hard to keep your germs to yourself and your waistline manageable. That is why it is especially important to be mindful of how and where you are spending your time this year during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Part one of this series will focus on eating healthy this holiday season.

Eating Healthy

Eating healthy is something we always talk about during the holidays. With so many gatherings and all the delicious food, it’s hard not to go overboard on the tasty treats. Try limiting the number of sweet snacks you have during the day. It’s easy to pick up a cookie and be on your way, and boy does it taste good! But a veggie snack will not only fill you up, but it will keep you fuller longer, which keeps you from going back from more and more cookies.

Try other seasonings other than salt. While salt can enhance the flavor of something, too much salt is not only overpowering, but unhealthy as well. Try other herbs and spices for seasonings and lightly salt. Too much salt can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

Have a large spread of food? Instead of filling your plate so high you can’t breath when you’re done, try smaller portions. Smaller portions allow you to try more foods without overeating. It also helps your body realize when it’s full so you don’t get that stuffed feeling.

Next, we’ll talk about Healthy Habits during the holidays and other ways to stay healthy.
