6 Freebies for Kids this Summer

So the kids are thrilled, it’s the last day of school and they’ve got the whole summer ahead. No school, no homework, and all the time at home. But many parents are trying to figure out what to do with their kids this summer without breaking the bank.

We’ve put together a short list of some free things to do with your kiddos this summer. This by no means a complete list of free events in Louisville, it is simply a starting point.

1. Cultural Pass

The Cultural Pass allows kids under age 21 to get a free pass to a number of museums, activities, festivals and classes from June 1 – August 11, 2018. One adult is also admitted free when accompanied by children with the Cultural Pass. These passes can be picked up at any Louisville Free Public Library location. For a complete list of Cultural Passes venues go here. NOTE: Some locations have restrictions such as ages, days of the week or number of attendants, please check with the venue before arriving.

2. Home Depot Kids Workshops

On June 2 and July 7 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Home Depot has a kids workshop where kids learn how to build things like a race car or a fishing game. Kids will get a certificate of achievement, will get to keep their toy after building and decorating it, and will also get a free workshop apron. Recommended for ages 5-12. You can find more information here.

3. Apple Store Classes

Apples store have a variety of classes for kids and adults, ranging form one hour to three days. Kids can learn to make music in Garage Band, make movies with iMovie, and more. They even have a class for parents that teaches how to monitor kids online activity. For more information about classes, dates, times, and locations you can visit Apple’s website.

4. Story Time at Pottery Barn

Every Tuesday at Pottery Barn at 11am is story time. Their website states “Join us for readings, activities and more! Become a Pottery Barn Kids Book Club Member and you’ll receive a special surprise after attending five events.”

5. Kids Bowl Free

With bowling alleys all over town this one is a no-brainer! Sign your kids up here, and they can bowl 2 free games every day of the Kids Bowl Free program. Remember when signing up that you are only eligible at the location you register for.

6. Kids Skate Free

Similar to Kids Bowl Free, the Kids Skate Free program gives kids 2 free skate passes at Champs on Lexington Road every week during the summer. Champs is the only location participating in Louisville, but there are other skating rinks outside in Louisville and is other states if those apply to you. To find a participating location near you or to register, click here.

We know summer can be fun, but we also know it can be hard on the wallet. Hopefully you and your family can take advantage of some of the free events around Louisville this summer.
